Doctor Bob Cherry, as he is known by friends and family, sat down recently to fill me in on his current business and the path he took to get there. After graduating from New Hanover High School, where he played varsity golf and was on the team that won the 1998 NCHSAA state championship as a senior, Bob moved to Chapel Hill to attend the University of North Carolina. An avid Tar Heels fan his entire life, Bob played on the varsity golf team while completing his undergraduate studies. Bob also attended the UNC School of Dentistry and completed his residency in Chapel Hill.
He moved home to Wilmington and partnered with Doctor Robert Kelly, who has decades of experience in pediatric dentistry and was the Cape Fear Caller’s childhood dentist. When Dr. Kelly retired in 2014, Dr. Cherry joined forces with Doctors Julie Dimock and Adam Weinberg of Coastal Carolina Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Cherry is very focused on utilizing his craft as an education tool for children and their parents as well.
Dr. Cherry enjoys helping kids overcome their fear of the dentist and really likes to see his clients smiling and laughing by creating a joyful experience for them. His research on prescribing antibiotics was published in 2011 by JADA and his style was nationally recognized when he received the OMNI Award. He is also a Diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Cherry also provides assistance to clients at New Hanover Regional Medical Center that may have special needs or behavioral issues. In addition to providing his clients with the necessary education, Dr. Cherry and his team provide cleanings, fluoride, extractions, fillings, and sedation services when needed. You can find more information about their practice by visiting the company website.
